Anyone out there read or hear about a current SCDHEC advisory recommending zero consumption of fish caught in Lake Jocassee? |

There has been some talk on the news about fish in Hartwell. The trout are safe. All fish are safe in Jocassee but spotted bass and largemouth are 1 meal per week. |

| #5 | I wouldn't be really alarmed by only eating a few stripers. But as a precaution wouldn't eat any more fish from hartwell. It is contaminated with PCB a chemical known to cause cancer. When the advisory was first issued years ago it was recomended that no fish over 3lbs be consumed in the tugaloo river arm and no fish in the seneca river arm be consumed. Only the Twelve mile creek and seneca river arms were contaminated and maybe the mouth of the keowee river arm. It was said that you would have to consume so many lbs of fish per week for a period of 20yrs to risk cancer. A few people living around twelve mile creek did die of cancer and Sangamo in pickens ( responsible for dumping chemicals ) was put out of business. I haven't read or heard the latest advisory. I myself practice catch and release on hartwell because of the PCB contamination. As far as Jocassee it is the cleanest lake in the south. I do not hesitate to eat the trout that i harvest from Jocassee. See ya on the lake soon.
